London: Jonathan Cape 1929. First Edition. 448pp. Hardcover: VERY GOOD. Dust Wrapper: NEAR FINE. Spine has slight cocking, modest bumping to front board tips, text block has discoloration. Wrapper has minor chipping and general wear. Interesting ephemera included - an uncommon subscription postcard, as well as an order form for war-themed books. An attractive copy of Graves' autobiography, a large part of which is taken up by his experience of the First World War serving as a lieutenant, then captain in the Royal Welch Fusiliers with Siegfried Sassoon. This first issue INCLUDES the subsequently suppressed Sigfried Sassoon poem on pp 341-343, which Sassoon had written to Graves in letter form. Sassoon demanded the recall of the edition and the removal of the poem; this request was completed and a second issue was produced with asterisks marking where the passages had been.
