Two volumes with two steel-engraved frontispiece portraits and one hundred fifty illustrations and maps, a great many full page. Rear pocket of each volume contain two folding maps, loose as issued. 547pp in Volume One and 540pp in Volume Two. Originally appearing in 1890, these two volumes comprise the fascinating account of Stanley s brave and adventurous expedition to bring Emin Pasha to freedom. A better than very good set, the dark green cloth fresh with modest wear (as usual) at spine extremities but with the gilt titles and gilt author s facsimile signature unusually fresh and splendidly bright, the set presents extremely well.
