First American hardcover ed. in volume22, 23, and 24 of the collected Cosmopolitan. Vol. 22 contains part 1 in the April 1897 issue and is in fair condition, ex-library, contents page missing, heavy over all wear to boards, boards loose and attached with clear tape, all the usual library defects, REP stained. Vol. 23 contains parts 2 through 7 in the May through October 1897 issues and is in fair condition with heavy over all wear to boards, spine has been rebound without titles in calfskin. Vo. 24 contains parts 8 & 9 in the November and December 1897 issues and is in fair condition with wear to the boards and spine, contents page missing, binding design does not match the first two volumes. All parts illustrated by Warwick Globe. Over all a set in rough condition.

About The War of the Worlds

The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by English author H.G. Wells. It first appeared in serialized form in 1897, published by Pearson’s Magazine in the UK and by Cosmopolitan magazine in the US. The novel details the experiences of an unnamed protagonist in London and his brother in Surrey during an invasion of Earth by Martians. It is a pioneering work of the science fiction genre, popularizing the alien invasion trope.
