Octavo, 2 volumes, bound in three quarters calf over marbled boards with gilt titles to the spine, marbled endpapers, marbled edges. From the library of Ulysses S. Grant with a presentation bookplate to the pastedown of both volumes which reads, "Lieut. Gen. U. S. Grant, from the Citizens of Boston, January 1, 1866." In very good condition. Rare and desirable. As Commanding General of the United States Army (1864–69), Grant worked closely with President Abraham Lincoln to lead the Union Army to victory over the Confederacy in the Civil War.
