Written for a slightly older readership than his other works, the collection includes two semi-autobiographical stories, in turn based on Dahl's experience as a fighter pilot in the Second World War and exploring his motivation to become a writer. A film adaptation of "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" was released in September 2023.
