Charmed Life, the first book in Jones's Chrestomanci series, was first published in the UK a few months prior; both the US and UK editions are rare signed. It won the Guardian's Children's Fiction Prize and the German Preis der Leseratten. A hugely influential fantasy writer, Jones (1934-2011) was an important inspiration for Philip Pullman, Terry Pratchett, and J. K. Rowling.
