Grove Press, New York, 1959. 245 pages. First Edition, 1st printing. Original 1st issue DJ with $3.50 price intact on flap. Between 500 and 1,000 copies were printed in this format and famous dj. Gray boards are clean and bright as are gold titles on backstrip. Book is tight and crisp. Corners are sharp though barely pushed, gently (not bumped). Page edges show most minor, faint soiling. Endpapers are bright and clean with most minor faint spotting. Foot and crown of backstrip gently pushed. DJ is in lesser condition than the beautiful book. Highly sought after and preferred DJ version in red, gray, black and white coloring. Slightest fade to the red Jack Kerouac name on the DJ backstrip. $3.50 price intact on DJ flap. DJ shows rubbing around the edges, chipping at foot and crown and faint cloud stains on the rear and flaps. Light bleed to rear of DJ. DJ shows a couple of small textural scuffs. DJ verso shows tape reinforcement (not on exterior). These DJ flaws have no effect on the condition of the book whatsoever. Condition description is hyper-critical and flaws are overstated. This is an incredible near fine to almost NF book in a VG- to G+ dj.
