This is Bentley's Standard Novels, no. 23 and the first single volume edition, the first illustrated edition and the earliest impression, with the preface dated Oct.1832 and both the title pages being dated 1833. Early dark blue binder's cloth, re-cased with new end papers and a little stiff in its case. Piece cut from top margin of frontispiece. This is disfiguring and was done to erase the the previous owner's signature This requires a simple, sympathetic repair.The prelims are rather browned and foxed. Some occasional moderate text foxing and soiling, mainly to early leaves, so good only, at best. Very scarce indeed. Further notes:- Collates thus:- Frontis, [v], vi-xv, [i], [1], 2-331, [1],pp. No 8pp ads are present in this copy and no half title is present although the pagination doesn't call for this.
