*** MARVELOUS ASSOCIATION COPY ***SKYLARK OF SPACE, Buffalo Book Company, 1946, first edition, lower front fore edge corner tip very gently bumped, some rubbing to the corner tips and spine ends as well as just a bit to the bottom edge of the front board, else a vg copy in like color pictorial dust-wrapper save for some chipping to the spine extremities of the somewhat tanned spine. This copy warmly INSCRIBED at the time of publication to fellow author and one of Smith's closest friends, E. Everett Evans thusly, "To E. Everett Evans, the ol' Foo of Fandom; who believes with me (and practices his beliefs) that pats on the back produce more and better work than do kicks in the seat of the pants. I take pleasure and pride in autographing this, the first novel in which I had a hand. Edward E. Smith, Ph. D., May 6, 1946." Additionally this copy is SIGNED by the artist Charles Schneeman at his illustration and appreciatively INSCRIBED to Evans by the dedicatee on the verso of the dedication page, Jeannie Smith (the author's wife) thusly, "I'll autograph here E.E.E. as this is where I belong and thank you for including me. It's quite a thrill to have had a part in the writing /typing of this book even though I don't know what it's all about. As ever, Jeannie." But wait. There's more! On the bottom half of the dedication page is a taped in photo of Edward & Jeannie Smith circa 1946. And even more! This copy has the special illustrations for this book that were not used, put published in the Fantasy Advertiser at a later date laid in. Knowing that this is the authors first book and that May 6, 1946 makes it the earliest known date of any INSCRIBED copy of this title as well, seems to indicate that this is a choice copy of this work by one of the most influential writers in the genre. An obvious cornerstone for any science fiction library.
