The Gormenghast Trilogy in a complete set of first editions: Titus Groan (1946), Gormenghast (1950), Titus Alone (1959). Titus Groan is in the exceedingly rare first state dust jacket. Red cloth hardbacks with gilt spine titles; slightly bumped to spine ends and fore-edge corners, volumes one and three bright with rubbing to edges, volume two a little sunfaded. Spines of books two and three tilt forward a little; all bindings sound. Dust jackets toned, lightly scuffed and edgeworn; 'Gormenghast' has heavier edgewear, including chip from bottom fore-edge corner of rear panel, and tape reinforcement to verso at spine head and back bottom corners. 'Titus Groan' meets all points for a first state / Currey (A) dust jacket, with no reviews printed at the front inner flap and the price listed at 15s/Net. Small prior bookseller's sticker at front paste down of 'Gormenghast'; interiors else clean, with some heavier toning to margins of 'Titus Groan,' but all texts unmarked. Titus Groan is the first novel in the Gormenghast series by Mervyn Peake. It tells the story of the eponymous castle, the Groan family who inhabits it, and the servants and retainers who fill its halls. It paints a richly detailed picture of a gothic landscape and the bizarre rituals and traditions that dominate the lives of its characters.
