This first English edition of "Hyperion" and "The Fall of Hyperion" was published one year after the first American edition of the book. The series title "The Hyperion Cantos" was originally used for the first two books in the series. The title later came to include subsequent volumes, including "Endymion", "The Rise of Endymion" and several short stories. That title for the series, "The Hyperion Cantos" is drawn from the epic poem which Martin Silenus, a recurring character in the series, is writing. Both novels were highly acclaimed. "Hyperion" was the recipient of the Hugo and Locus Awards in 1990 and "The Fall of Hyperion" was awarded both the Locus and British Science Fiction Association Awards in 1991.
