The first state of the second separate published typographic edition of Innocence & Experience, with a new preface by Richard Herne Shepherd and containing three poems (from the Pickering MS.) not printed before. 'It is stated that the poems are, with the exception of some alterations in spelling and punctuation, now printed for the first time in their integrity, and this claim is justified by the accuracy of the text.'- Keynes. Octavo (17.5 x 11cm). pp. xii,108. Quires N & O (pp. 89-108) in the scarce uncancelled setting with the 5th. stanza of Mary and lines 113-4 of Auguries of Innocence in unsuppressed state. Sheets N & O were subsequently cancelled and reset after a few copies containing the offending lines had been circulated. The free endpapers slighty foxed, otherwise an excellent copy in contemporary full crushed morocco, gilt, teg, marbled endpapers, by Roger De Coverly. VG. [Keynes 138; Bentley 335; CBEL II, 622].
