Special Edition. First Edition. With stated "First Edition" and the number line ending in "2" on the copyright page as was Random House's policy at the time (Ahearn). Specially Inscribed copy: 1/50 copies printed for the friends of the author. Capote has written in blue ink on the first free endpaper: "This is one of fifty copies printed for friends of the author D.D. my good sweet friend/ Truman October, 1980"D.D. refers to Dorinda Dixon Ryan who was a good friend of Truman and worked with him on the set of "House of Flowers" for which she designed the costumes. Her husband to be, John Barry Ryan, III, was the stage manager of the play at the time. D.D. worked at Harper's Bazaar with Diana Vreeland and Richard Avedon. A splendid copy bound in woven dark brown cloth stamped brightly in gold on the front boards and the spine. With the original off-white box which is lightly soiled and dented at the bottom edge. There is a small letter "D." in Capote's hand at the top of the spine of the slipcase denoting this is "Dorinda's" copy. Note: This special 1/50 copies differs from the regular signed limited edition of 350 copies in two ways: The signed presentation to D.D. appears on a special page where the signed/limitation page appears. And the slipcase of the regular signed limited matches the dark brown binding of the book, as opposed to the special lighter, beige slipcase for the 1/50 copies. Special Edition. First Edition. With stated "First Edition" and the number line ending in "2" on the copyright page as was Random House's policy at the time (Ahearn).
