Octavo (21.25cm); burnt orange cloth-covered boards and glazed black cloth backstrip, with titles stamped in gilt on spine, and a flamingo stamped in gilt on lower front cover; green topstain; dustjacket; x,[2],3-389,[1]pp. Lower corners gently tapped (though still sharp), else a fresh, very Near Fine copy, with the topstain bright and unfaded. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $2.75), lightly edgeworn, with some very mild dust-soil to rear panel and front flap fold, a few tiny tears and attendant creases (four of the unnecessarily tape-mended on verso); a bright, Near Fine example. An attractive copy of the Danish author's memoir, recounting the seventeen years she lived in British East Africa between 1913 and the early 1930s. Basis for Sydney Pollack's Oscar-winning film of the same name, starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.
