This is a finely produced edition of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's celebrated love poems, which were first published in 1850. Quarto. Original blue morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, covers bordered in gilt, board edges and turn-ins gilt, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. Engraved border to title page. Ink ownership signature, dated Christmas 1944, to front free endpaper verso. Spine faded to brown, light foxing to outer leaves. A very good copy. .

A collection of 44 love sonnets, 'Sonnets from the Portuguese' is one of Browning's most famous works and was composed during her courtship with Robert Browning.
