With one full page, reduced plan of Walden Pond, 1846, bound in between pages 306 and 307. A reduced 1846 plan of Walden Pond bound in, facing page 307 with S. W. Chandler & Bro. Lith imprint. Title page dated 1864 but missing advertisements at rear. Walden is Thoreau's best known work, reflections on simple living in natural surroundings, compressing the two years, two months and two days he spent at Walden Pond into a single calendar year, symbolizing human development using the passage of the four seasons. Though Walden wasn't popular when published, it later was regarded as a classic of American literature. Contemporary newspaper clipping with Thoreau portrait and facsimile signature laid in. Binding with light wear along edges, chipped head (a qurater inch) and tail of spine and rubbed. Small dealer sticker on inside front cover. Light foxing of free endpapers and some damp staining towards end of block. Pencil notes on inside cover and bottom margin of page 309. Penciled name of previous owner on front free endpaper, dated 1866.
