Mainstream novel, first published as a Gold Medal paperback in 1962: a US hardcover followed in 1966 adding a new introduction by the author. This 1968 Cape edition retains that introduction and is the 1st British edition (a Panther paperback followed in 1973). SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. A little browning along top page edges, minor dink to bottom front corner tip, else a fine copy in an almost fine price-clipped (with new price label affixed at bottom of front flap) dustjacket with a little background spine fade.
