First printing in first state dustjacket of one of Hemingway's major works. A hardcover book in fine condition with a dustjacket which is in very good condition. Jacket with original $2.75 price and without photographer credit on rear panel in the first printing with A on copyright page. The jacket has some mild overall rubbing/shelfwear and some shallow chipping at the spine ends.

For Whom the Bell Tolls is a novel by Ernest Hemingway published in 1940. It tells the story of Robert Jordan, a young American in the International Brigades attached to a republican guerrilla unit during the Spanish Civil War. As a dynamiter, he is assigned to blow up a bridge during an attack on the city of Segovia.
