Journalist, abolitionist, and advocate for women's rights Mary A. Livermore's copy with her ownership Inscription on the front fly: "Mary A. Livermore from my Husband. Oct. 1851." Livermore served as president of the American Woman Suffrage Association, and was the first president of the Association for the Advancement of Women.

A collection of 44 love sonnets, 'Sonnets from the Portuguese' is one of Browning's most famous works and was composed during her courtship with Robert Browning.
