Red boards and spines lettered and decorated in gilt and black; significant lean to both spines; slightest bubbling to rear (plane) panel of Vol 1 with a slight 2 cm x 3 mm scuff. Only mild foxing to two fore edges. Interrnally VOL 1: end papers foxed and mild intermittent foxing throughout (more severe in index section0; book plate on reverse of ffep; photo frontis with tissue guard; eight pages of 'Contents' uncut. 13 cm horizontal tear across one panel of folding map. Vol 2l: less foxed; similar book plate on reverse of ffep; portrait frontis, with guard, signed and dated by author; similar tear to folding map but this one professionally repaired.
