London: J.F. and C. Rivington [etc.], 1785. Hardcover. Seventh Edition. The first unabridged edition to appear in a single volume. [COURTNEY & SMITH 57]. Folio: 11 x 17in. [1150pp.] Engraved portrait frontispiece of Johnson by Thomas Cook after Joshua Reynolds. Bound in calf boards of the period. Re-cased with modern polished calf with gilt decoration and the original titling affixed. Marbled endpapers. VERY GOOD. Shows the corners neatly and professionally restored, the front marbled endpaper is marginally worn at the margin, frontispiece with very light soiling in some parts of the margins, title page lightly offset from the frontispiece, occasional very light hints of foxing in some margins throughout, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is exceptionally clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. As pictured.
