Description

253pp. Octavo [21cm]. Red cloth over boards, with title stamped in black ink on spine. Spine ends and foot of boards a bit bumped. Very mild moisture damage to upper right edge of text block and rear board. Prior owner's signature in black ink on front pastedown. In a vibrant dust jacket, with the $2.50 price unclipped. Front panel is vertically creased, and there is a 6.5cm scratch near crease. Folds are a bit rubbed, with a hint of moisture damage near front flap. Rear panel a bit soiled. Scattered chipping, particularly near spine ends. Isaac Asimov's second published work, and first published collection of short stories. All were originally printed in the magazines "Super Science Stories" and "Astounding Science Fiction," then compiled by Gnome Press in a first edition run of 5,000 copies. Asimov was among the most acclaimed—and prescient—science fiction authors of the 20th century. The themes of this title's nine stories (including Asimov's famous Three Laws of Robotics) have undeniably influenced subsequent literature about artificial intelligence. In addition to literary impact, the collection occasionally features in modern technological discourse, with "I, Robot" cited in articles about everything from chatbots to automation in the workplace.
