First edition of Mann's masterpiece. One of the greatest novels of the 20th century and the principal work for which Mann was awarded the Nobel Prize. Issued in 2 hefty volumes [578pp +629pp] in a total printing of 10,000 copies divided between bindings in full cloth, half-cloth and wraps. The present set is composed of Vol. 1 in full cloth and Vol. 2 in half-cloth (i.e. cloth spine and paper-covered boards). Both state 'Erste bis zehnte Auflage' on versos of title pages. Light handling marks to covers and page edges, but a good, sound set in original publishers' bindings of a key title that is becoming increasingly scarce in first edition.
