Very good first edition. Some light bumping and wear to spine ends, edges, corners. Age-toning to front and rear pastedowns, endpapers. Otherwise pages remarkably clean and bright. Some light rubbing to boards. Tiny mark to right side of front board. Previous owner's name inscribed to top right corner of front endpaper, apparently contemporary with publication. Small rectangular sticker to top left corner of front pastedown, reading "Spottiswood Co & Ltd, 17 High Street, Eton", that being the town in England where James had often studied, lived and worked, and where he died. Some very light foxing to edges of textblock. Stamped illustration and text on front board and spine striking and intact. Overall a stunning first edition of the second volume of James' celebrated Ghost Stories.
