204 pp. This advance Proof is an unusual "hybrid" of the 1st U.K edition (1977) with elements of the 1st U.S. Ekdition (1978). Modifications include: 1) the U.K. dust jacket is missing (in its place is the U.S. proof d.j.); 2) the pictorial upper and lower free end papers are excised from the U.K. edition and then affixed to the respective upper and lower past downs of the U.S. edition (so no illustrations appear); and 3) the black and white photographs after pp. 60, 76, 124 and 140 are also excised out. The U.S. publisher's dust jacket states "Probable publication: June 1978" and includes reviews by Paul Theroux, Malcolm Deas, Maurice Richardson, S.W. Lambert and Nicholas Wollaston (all U.K. reviews) which do not appear on the U.K. dust jacket but do appear on the U.S. The U.S. edition lacks illustration: i.e.; neither are there photos inside nor are there pictorial end papers. There are numerous hand written marginal notes in pen, concluding with, "Reviewed for Quest Magazine; Michael Mewshaw" on the verso of the last leaf; 8.75 x 5.75 inches. A very interesting and convoluted In Patagonia "proof." Air mail letter from Mewshaw (1995) corroborating being sent this proof and suggestions where to obtain additional information, laid in (addressee fogged out by seller). Evidence of a paper clip on the front d.j. panel; d.j.; spine sunned. See additional images provided. Size: 8vo. 0.0.
