Description

First Edition, First Impression. Number 18 of 100 copies signed by Hughes to limitation page. Additionally inscribed by the author to title in the month of publication, To Michael - when the Crow sings the nightingale bursts - from Ted March 70. The recipient was most likely the poet and novelist, Michael Baldwin (1930-2014), a close friend of Hughes from the early 1960s. The quotation is a reference to the fable by Aesop given a Hughesian twist. Octavo. Original white wrappers, front wrapper lettered in black, stapled as issued. Edges of wrappers faintly toned, a tiny black mark to upper wrapper, else a fine copy. [Sagar & Tabor A20].

About Crow

A significant and ambitious work of poetry that combines a mythological character with raw, visceral imagery and themes.
