The Scarlet Letter. Second edition with a new preface by HAWTHORNE and REPUDIATE instead of REDUPLICATE in line 20 of page 21. 4 pp ads dated October 1, 1849 at the front of the book followed by 322 pp. Owner label (Alfred Lovell Russell) on upper left of front pastedown. Some foxing to prelims and some random foxing thereafter. Some mild wear and some light restoration at the extremities. The cloth is clean and the spine gilt is bright.

The Scarlet Letter, published in 1850, is considered one of Nathaniel Hawthorne's most famous works. It is a historical romance set in the puritanical Massachusetts Bay Colony during the mid-17th century.
