Subterranean Press started to produce the books beginning with the first volume, A Game of Thrones. This set is scarce since it does not only contain all of the Subterranean Press books as a same number set, but also features the two early Meisha Merlin books. George RR Martin has been hailed as the American Tolkien. His major contribution to the fantasy genre is to introduce adult themes into the craft and making fantasy mainstream. The famous HBO television adaptation has certainly helped in achieving this. The books have been on the bestseller lists around the world ever since the launch of the TV-show in 2007. More spin-off series are planned. Given the significance of the novels and impact on popular culture, the books will always retain their value with likely appreciation for years to come.
