First English Edition; preceded by the American edition (which had significant textual differences). Publisher's wrappers; the book's earliest issue; 5000 copies were so bound, but, given its fragility, most have clearly perished and it has become one of the author's rarest books. This copy is in only good condition; the covers and spine are chipped; the front wrapper is hinged with tissue; the back wrapper has tape stains along the spine. We can barely recall the last time we had a copy. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
