First edition with the author's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'To Marcelle with love & thanks from Graham'. The recipient was Marcelle Sibon, Greene's chief French translator with whom he worked from the late 1940s until his death. Presentation copies of this central work in Greene's canon are not common.
