New York: Harper & Brothers, 1865. First American edition. Hardcover. Orig. printed wrappers, very good housed in two fine red cloth slip cases with black leather spine labels printed in gilt.. Stone, Marcus. 26.2 x 16.8 cm. Wood engraved portrait of Dickens after Marcus Stone and 34 parts in 19 vols. This was the first American periodical in parts. Each part appearing one month after the first British serial publication which ran from May 1854 to November 1865. Harper and Brothers purchased advance proofs of the work paying 1000 pounds to assure that the issue in the Magazine was probably its first appearance in the United States.
