Octavo, bound in full calf by Root and Son, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, raised bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, all edges gilt, inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, illustrated with 40 plates. In near fine condition, remnant of a bookplate to the front free endpaper. The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit is considered the last of Dickens’ picaresque novels. It was originally serialised in 1843 and 1844. Dickens thought it to be his best work. "Dickens' funniest novel" (William Boyd).
