Description

First edition. First appearance of the title story and first book appearance of the remaining five, including "Bartleby, the Scrivener" (titled simply "Bartleby" herein), which is among his best known and best regarded short stories. Somewhat inexpertly rebound with publisher's ads missing from rear. 12mo quarter gilt-stamped imitation leather with brown cloth boards and off-white endpapers; rear endpaper with circular "Strathmore Artist" blindstamp; 431 pages; ads not present although called for [BAL 13669]. Pages bright and mostly clean save for occasional light stains; possible ex-library copy with thinned area on title page where it appears an oval stamp has been mostly erased; small tears to last page of text where hinge is starting though tight and binder's stitching is revealed (presumably from ads having been removed). Still, altogether quite good, and relatively scarce in any condition.
