Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, J.K. Rowling, Bloomsbury, 1999 Deluxe First Edition, First Impression The first novel in the Harry Potter series and Rowling's debut novel. It has been translated into at least seventy-three languages and adapted into a film of the same name. The book has sold in excess of 120 million copies, making it the fourth best-selling book of all time. This is a first impression of first edition of the Deluxe Edition, covered in red cloth with gold lettering and the author's signature on the front board and the original blue silk ribbon still fully attached. In very good condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the gold lettering on the spine bright. There is minimal wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears and inscriptions. There is a slight wave to the fore edge. It is rare to find this particular edition especially in such good condition making it a wonderful addition to a library or a wonderful gift. Becoming increasingly uncommon and sought after. With the help of their skills and courage, the trio bypasses various obstacles set up by the school's professors to protect the stone. In the final chambers, they confront Professor Quirrell, who has been possessed by Voldemort, the dark wizard responsible for the deaths of Harry's parents. Quirrell is seeking the stone for Voldemort, who wishes to regain a physical form by using the stone's powers. During the confrontation, Harry manages to prevent Quirrell/Voldemort from obtaining the stone, which leads to Voldemort's temporary defeat, causing Quirrell to disintegrate. Dumbledore, the headmaster, arrives and explains some details to Harry but leaves many questions unanswered. The school year ends, and Harry returns to the Dursleys for the summer, eager for the next year at Hogwarts and the adventures that await him. "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" introduces readers to the magical world of Hogwarts, sets the stage for Harry's journey, and lays the foundation for the overarching battle between good and evil that spans the entire series.
