Ian Fleming went to school with a member of the Bond family and spent time with them, and historical Research into the Bond family has shown there was an Elizabethan spy who had a playboy life style which influenced Ian's character James Bond. The inscription on front endpaper HMGB may stand for Major General Bond who was the last remaining family member.
