Description

First edition with date on title page and 12 girls in "They went home and broke their bread" panel. Pictorial boards are still bright but edges are shelf-worn, corners bumped, tail of spine worn and head of spine missing a 1/2" chunk (title still intact). Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown, covered by flap of jacket. Text block is slightly bowed away from back cover. Age-toning/discoloration to gutters, especially at endpapers, with minor soiling here and there, otherwise interior is surprisingly bright and clean. Binding is intact but not super tight. Jacket is in overall good condition and presents well in mylar. Edges are bumped, chipped, and worn, with some soiling overall and a scratch across the cover. Spine is present but repaired subtly with scotch tape; 1/2" chunk missing from tail, 2" chunk missing from head with title lost, most of author's name intact. All four flap corners are clipped with price clipped as well. Flaps are age-toned. Overall a well-loved but still surprisingly intact copy of this beloved classic.
