First edition, first printing, signed by the author on the front free endpaper in an early hand and inscribed by him several years later, "[Ray Bradbury] signs this book twice to express his approval of Gunther Swain! Ray Bradbury, 2/29/64". Dark Carnival collects short stories written by Bradbury during the previous decade. Several are here revised following publication in magazines and six are printed for the first time. Octavo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. Dark Carnival is a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury, first published in 1947 by Arkham House. It was Bradbury's first published book. This collection presents stories with elements of horror, fantasy, and the macabre, as one might expect from the title and the publisher's association with H.P. Lovecraft's mythos.
