First edition, first printing, an excellent copy in the publisher's deluxe binding.
The third and final series of Dickinson's initial three poetry collections followed those of 1890 and 1891. It includes some of Dickinson's most delightfully strange verses, such as "I heard a fly buzz when I died" and "I felt a funeral in my brain". A fourth collection did not appear until 1914.
Publication was on 8 April 1896 in a run of 1,000 copies. Those in the deluxe green-and-white cloth sold for $1.50, and those in full grey cloth for $1.25. This copy has the imprint of Roberts Bros on the spine. As the firm was bought by Little, Brown and Company in June 1898, copies bound after this date show their imprint instead.
