Bound in full calf. Gold lines at the perimeter of the panels with gold devices at the corners. Gold lettering, design and 1824 date on the raised band spines. Some wear on the edges. Worn through to the boards on about half the fore corners. Marbled endpapers and page ends. Very light, sparce foxing at the title page of the first volume. Lighter and even more sparce (approaching none) on the rest of the pages and other volumes. Very tight and sqaure. Hinges are fine. The binding may or may not be original but is certainly hand done and has some age. .comprehending an account of his studies, and numerous works, in chronological order; a series of his epistolary correspondence , and conversations with many eminent persons; and various original pieces of his composition, never before published: the whole exhibiting a view of literature and literary men in Great Britain, for near half a century during which he flourished. Copious notes and biographical illustrations by Malone. In four volumes. Very good plus.
