Finely bound with gold decorative tooling to the front and rear boards. Spine with further tooling and gold lettering on red. Half-titles, engraved portrait frontispiece of the author and Charles Eisen after Vispre, engraved title-vignettes, head- and numerous tail-pieces by Choffard, engraved plates by Aliamet, Baquoy, Choffard, Delafosse and others after Eisen. Considered a masterpiece of 18th century engraving and one of the great French illustrated works. "Le Diable de Papefigui�re" plate has been removed. Scarce and desirable. Endpapers darkened with age, some foxing particularly to early and late blank pages, binding a little loose but acceptable.
