The deluxe limited edition of In Darkest Africa, one of 250 copies, signed by Henry M. Stanley.. Quarto, [two volumes]: xv, [1], 529pp, [4]; xv, [1], 472pp, [3]. Three quarter brown morocco, raised bands, title in gilt on spine. Vellum covers with title and flag in gilt. Light rubbing to vellum boards, as is typical with this set. Silk bookmarks in both volumes. Top edge gilt, uncut edges. Both volumes complete with photogravure frontispiece portraits, and 4 maps and plans (3 of which are folding color maps). The large maps are back with linen. Includes 36 full page illustrations mounted on India paper and six etchings printed in Sepia by M.G. Montbard, all signed in pencil by the artist, which is unique to this edition. Folding printed table in Volume II. Variable foxing and toning to plates, maps are bright, near fine examples.
