One of the most influential books of the 18th century and onwards which had an influence over the whole genre of biography. This copy has the uncorrected "gve" for "give" on p.135. The portrait frontis after Reynolds in volume 1, and the two plates of facsimile handwriting in volume 2 are all present as called for. This copy is bound in contemporary full tree calf. Generally in very good condition. A little foxing here and there throughout. The leather at the spine is a little rubbed and chipped and the bottom 4" of the front hinge on volume II has cracked but neither the hinge nor the book seem in any great danger.
