This is a 5th impression in February,1956 of the First Edition of 1954. Bound in red cloth with title and author in gilt on the spine. Spine leans and is creased, but the binding is sound. Corners and spine caps are bumped and fraying. Tinted top edges have faded. Name of previous owner on the front paste-down. Gift inscription on verso of ffe. Otherwise, pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. The map is intact and in place. 423 pp. , 5.75" X 8.75" Please see all images. The Fellowship of the Ring is the first of three volumes of the epic novel The Lord of the Rings by the English author J.R.R. Tolkien. It is followed by The Two Towers and The Return of the King. The story begins with the discovery of the One Ring, which had been lost for centuries, and follows a group of heroes who set out on a quest to destroy it and prevent the dark lord Sauron from fulfilling his malevolent designs.
