[viii], 166, [2] pp. 5 hand coloured plates and a number of other in-text black and white illustrations by John Leech. Red half calf over cloth boards, with raised bands and gilt lettering to the spine; all edges gilt. Slight wear to joints and light rubbing to extremities, including the spine, which has a small chip beneath the title. Ink inscription dated 1844 and spotting at prelims, becoming sporadic to main text, before getting a little heavier towards the end. Very small tear to edge of page 79. A very pleasant copy of the third issue. The first issue was published on December 19th 1843 and sold out by Christmas Eve. The second and third issues were published in the last days of the year. . It was first published by Chapman & Hall in 1843 and tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a grumpy, greedy, and cold-hearted old miser who is transformed into a kind, generous man after visits by the ghost of his former business partner and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come.
