The first American edition ( while preceded by the English edition, the American edition would appear to be genuinely scarce ) published by Harper and Brothers in 1996. Bound in publishers original wrappers. A very good copy with some even wear and chipping to the blue-green wrappers. Housed in a near fine quarter leather slipcase with five bands and gold titling to the spine. Tipped in is an autographed note in pencil written and signed by Shaw. The note reads ' To Lester. From a nonagenarian, these first fruits of his ------ to half a centurion. Affect. GBS ' Note apparently jotted off between 1946 and his death in 1950 - the period in which the aforementioned label applied. On the verso of the note there is a pen squiggle.
