First edition. Uncorrected proof copy. Advance American hardcover issue. Created from the first U. K. edition. Blue cloth, original front and rear map endpapers taped over with clear paper, 204 pp. One of an unknown number of copies received by Summit Books and prepared as advance reading copies, prior to publication. Summit printed up a special dust wrapper with press comments from English reviewers --- including Paul Theroux. New endpapers were pasted into copies and the dust jacket taped on. Laid-in are calling cards of the Summit Books Publicity Director. Fine in fine dust jacket. It is hard to imagine that many like this were actually prepared. To date we are aware of four copies.
