Description

First English edition of Freud s masterpiece, a work which alone can be said to have launched the idea of psychoanalysis as a field of study and containing many of Freud s most famous ideas, including the Oedipus complex, the erotics of dreaming and more. Translated by A. A. Brill, who himself became the first practicing psychoanalyst in the US, published by Macmillan in 1913 simultaneously in the US and Britain (this is the US issue). This is an uncommonly nice copy, the spine a little sunned but the gilt lettering still bright, overall an excellent edition.

About Die Traumdeutung

Die Traumdeutung, which translates as 'The Interpretation of Dreams', is one of the seminal works of psychoanalysis literature. Written by Sigmund Freud, it introduces his theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation and also discusses what would later become the theory of the Oedipus complex. Freud revised the book at least eight times and, in the third edition, added an extensive section which treated dream symbolism very literally, following the influence of Wilhelm Stekel.
