First Heritage Press edition of Carroll's classic children's tales, in a handsome Maurin binding. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass were first published in 1865 and 1871 respectively. These masterpieces of fantasy literature earned their author "a place in the firmament of the great, for they are not only acts of imaginative genius but they also revolutionized writing for children" (ODNB). Williams, Madan, Green, and Crutch, p. 246. Two works in one volume, octavo (220 x 144 mm). Contemporary blue crushed morocco by Maurin, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, front cover with gilt roundel, gilt turn-ins, patterned endpapers, gilt top edge, and silk bookmarker. Frontispiece and other illustrations by John Tenniel. Spine sunned, rear outer corner bumped, final blank pages slightly cockled; a very good copy.
