Description

First edition, first printing, presentation copy, inscribed by the photographer on the front free endpaper, "To Bernard Quint, with old friendship, Andre, Sept 29 - 1967", together with an invitation inscribed on the back "Hope you can come, Andre", contained in an envelope addressed by Kertesz to Quint at Life magazine. Quint was art director at Life during the fifties and sixties and worked and befriended many of the photographers and artist of the period. Day of Paris is one the 20th century's abiding testimonies to the recording power of the lens in the hands of a genius like Kertesz. Its pages reflect over and over again something archetypal in the most quotidian of images. Photojournalism at its finest. Quarto. Original grey cloth, lettering to front cover and spine in black. With photographic dust jacket. With 103 full page black and white photographs. Unclipped dust jacket rubbed at corners and reinforced with tape on verso at edges and folds: a near-fine copy in the very good dust jacket. Parr & Badger I 200; Roth, p. 114.
