First edition, first impression, signed by the author on the front free endpaper, of the last major book to be written by Dahl before his death in 1990. Matilda won the Children's Book Award in 1989. It formed the basis for both the 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito and the successful stage musical that premiered at the RSC's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010.
